About Montgomery Inn
Founded in 1951 by Ted Gregory, Montgomery Inn began as a small tavern in Montgomery, Ohio, just outside Cincinnati. Ted’s wife, Matula Gregory, created the barbecue sauce that became a signature part of the restaurant’s ribs and helped build the Montgomery Inn name throughout the region. Montgomery Inn later expanded to the Cincinnati riverfront with The Boathouse, which opened along the Ohio River in 1989. Today, the family-owned business operates both The Original in Montgomery and The Boathouse in Cincinnati.
Montgomery Inn Original Barbecue Sauce
Montgomery Inn Original Barbecue Sauce is based on Matula Gregory’s original 1951 recipe and has been served with the restaurant’s ribs for more than 70 years. Tomatoes are the main ingredient, combined with vinegar, sugar, onions, garlic, molasses, tamarind, and a spice blend. Montgomery Inn describes the original sauce as gluten-free and allergen-free, and it doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup. While ribs remain closely connected to the Montgomery Inn name, the sauce also works well with chicken, beef, pork, hamburgers, and other barbecue dishes.
