Mentos Candy was created in 1932 after brothers Michael and Pierre Van Melle traveled to Poland and learned a method for producing soft fruit chews. Inspired by that process, they developed a peppermint-flavored chewy candy that later became known as Mentos. Roll-packed Mentos gained wider popularity during the 1960s, while Mentos Gum debuted in Europe and other markets in 2005. Today, Mentos is part of Perfetti Van Melle and is sold worldwide in chewy mint, chewing gum, hard mint, fruit, and other varieties.
