About Mounds Candy Bars
Mounds Candy was created in 1920 by Peter Halajian and became the first candy bar produced by the Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company. Sweetened coconut covered in dark chocolate established the combination still associated with Mounds today. Almond Joy followed in 1946 with milk chocolate and almonds, giving Peter Paul two related coconut candy bars. A famous 1970 advertising jingle compared the two with the line, “Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.” Mounds represented the nut-free choice in the campaign, while Almond Joy included almonds. Today, Mounds remains part of the Hershey candy portfolio.
