About Gimbal’s Candy

Gimbal’s Candy began in 1898 when Alexander Gimbal established the Gimbal Candy Kitchen in downtown San Francisco after acquiring the Pacific Steam Candy Company. His brothers, Louis and Eugene, joined the business in 1899, and the company became an early user of steam equipment to cook candy. By the 1950s, the family-owned manufacturer had begun concentrating on jelly candy and later developed an extensive collection of jelly beans, chewy candy, sour pieces, cinnamon candy, and licorice. Jelly Belly Candy Company acquired the Gimbal’s jelly bean brand, Scottie Dogs licorice, and associated chewy candies in 2019. Ferrara acquired Jelly Belly in 2023, adding these longtime products to its candy portfolio.
