About Worthmore

Dating back to 1920, Worthmore grew from a Cincinnati butcher shop operated by Phil Hock, who sold a family recipe for mock turtle soup alongside his meat business. Demand for the soup eventually led Hock to concentrate on prepared foods and establish Worthmore Food Products Company. Later generations of the Hock family continued the business and expanded the Worthmore name beyond mock turtle soup with Cincinnati-style chili, hot dog sauce, chili with beans, and mushroom steak sauces. Federal trademark records document commercial use of the Worthmore name for canned mock turtle soup as early as 1924.

Worthmore Chili, Mock Turtle Soup and Sauces

We carry several Worthmore products connected to Cincinnati food traditions, including Cincinnati Style Chili, Chili with Beans, Hot Dog Sauce with Meat, Mock Turtle Soup, Mushroom Steak Sauce, and Mushroom Bits Steak Sauce. Worthmore Mock Turtle Soup doesn’t contain turtle meat. Its ingredients include beef, beef heart meat, hard-boiled eggs, tomato-based ketchup, cracker meal, vinegar, lemon, onions, and spices. Worthmore’s Cincinnati Style Chili offers another local favorite to serve over spaghetti or hot dogs, while the Hot Dog Sauce with Meat is made specifically for coneys and other hot dog dishes. Mushroom Steak Sauce and Mushroom Bits Steak Sauce add two more longtime Worthmore products to the collection.
