About Cry Baby Candy

Introduced in 1991 by the Philadelphia Chewing Gum Corporation in Havertown, Pennsylvania, Cry Baby became known for bubble gum coated with an intensely sour outer layer. The name refers to the candy’s eye-watering sour taste, which helped Cry Baby become part of the growing sour candy market of the 1990s. Concord Confections acquired the Philadelphia Chewing Gum Corporation in 2003, and Tootsie Roll Industries acquired Concord’s operations in 2004. Cry Baby is now produced as part of Tootsie Roll’s sour candy and bubble gum collection.
