About Cracker Jack
First introduced in Chicago in 1893 by Frederick Rueckheim, Cracker Jack began as a mixture of caramel-coated popcorn and peanuts sold at the World's Columbian Exposition. Frederick and his brother Louis continued developing the recipe, and the snack began selling under the Cracker Jack name in 1896. Cracker Jack became closely connected with baseball after it was mentioned in the 1908 song Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and small prizes were added to packages in 1912. Frito-Lay acquired the brand in 1997, making Cracker Jack part of PepsiCo's snack business today.
Cracker Jack Caramel Popcorn and Peanuts
Cracker Jack Original combines popcorn and peanuts with its familiar sweet caramel coating. The recipe helped establish the brand more than a century ago and remains the product most closely associated with the Cracker Jack name. Sailor Jack and his dog Bingo later became part of the packaging, while the prize inside became another longtime part of the brand's identity. Physical toys were eventually replaced with digital prizes, but the original caramel popcorn and peanut combination remains the brand's centerpiece.
