York Peppermint Patties were created in 1940 by Henry Kessler, owner of the York Cone Company in York, Pennsylvania. Kessler named the candy after its hometown and became known for requiring each patty to pass a “snap test” before it could be sold. York joined The Hershey Company in 1988 and remains a Hershey brand today. Classic York Peppermint Patties combine a cool peppermint center with dark chocolate, and Hershey estimates that approximately 1.5 billion York Peppermint Patties are made each year. Current York Minis are manufactured in Mexico using globally sourced ingredients.
