About Twizzlers Licorice Candy

Twizzlers Candy traces its roots to Young & Smylie, a confectionery business founded in 1845 that later became part of the National Licorice Company. Twizzlers Twists themselves were first produced in 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, before the business evolved into Y&S Candies. Hershey acquired the brand in 1977, the same year Y&S opened its factory in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Twizzlers are still manufactured at that Lancaster facility today, where Hershey produces nearly 200 tons of Twizzlers Twists every day. More than a century after the original candy company began, Twizzlers has grown into one of Hershey’s best-known chewy candy brands.
