About Boyer Candy

Founded in 1936 by brothers Bill and Bob Boyer, Boyer Candy began in the family kitchen during the Great Depression as a way to bring in additional income. Their mother and sister helped wrap the homemade candy, while the brothers traveled around Altoona, Pennsylvania, selling fudge, nut clusters, and other sweets door to door. The company’s defining product came after the family experimented with marshmallow and chocolate. Because the mixture was difficult to contain, their mother suggested placing it in paper baking cups, which led to the creation of the Mallo Cup. Boyer Candy still makes Mallo Cups exclusively in Altoona, preserving a Pennsylvania candy tradition that now spans generations. The brand also continues its Play Money Redemption program, allowing customers to collect the printed money found inside participating Boyer Candy packages and redeem it through the company.
