Hammonds Candies

About Hammond’s Candies

Hammond’s Candies was founded in Denver, Colorado, in 1920 by Carl T. Hammond Sr. He began learning the trade as a candy-factory apprentice in 1913, returned to confectionery work after serving in World War I, and later opened his own company. His first original creation was Carl’s Piggy Backs, a chocolate candy topped with shredded coconut. Hammond added the caramel-covered marshmallow known as the Mitchell Sweet in 1930, and the company later became widely known for hand-pulled lollipops, peppermint pillows, candy canes, and ribbon candy. Hammond’s moved into its current Denver factory in 2004 and continues making traditional American candy more than a century after its founding.

Marshmallow varieties have included Mint Chip, Caramel Pumpkin, Cinnamon Churro, Maple, Natural Peppermint, Strawberry Crème, and Chocolate Vanilla. These candies work well for Christmas displays, stockings, dessert tables, hot chocolate bars, party favors, gift baskets, baking, and nostalgic candy collections.
