About Just Born Candy

Just Born was founded in 1923 when candy maker Sam Born opened a small retail store and factory in Brooklyn, New York. Born placed a sign in the shop window that read “just born” to let customers know fresh candy was made daily, giving the company its name. Operations moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1932, followed by the introduction of Mike and Ike in 1940 and Hot Tamales in 1950. Just Born acquired the Rodda Candy Company in 1953, adding jelly beans and handmade marshmallow chicks to its candy business. Bob Born helped develop an automated process for making PEEPS in 1954, reducing production time from 27 hours to approximately six minutes. Just Born remains a family-owned candy company headquartered in Bethlehem.
