About HARIBO Candy

HARIBO was founded by Hans Riegel in Bonn, Germany, on December 13, 1920. The company name combines the opening letters of Hans Riegel Bonn. Riegel began making candy in a small kitchen using basic equipment, and in 1922 he created the Dancing Bear, an early fruit gummy shaped like a bear. HARIBO introduced the name Goldbears in 1960, and the German Patent and Trademark Office registered it as a trademark in 1967. The family-owned company later expanded throughout Europe and into markets around the world. In 2023, HARIBO began production at its first North American factory in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
