About Doscher’s Candy

Founded in 1871 by Claus Doscher in Cincinnati, Ohio, Doscher’s Candy began with handcrafted candy canes made using real peppermint oil, small copper kettles, and a process that required each cane to be rolled, kneaded, striped, and hooked by hand. In 1896, Doscher’s introduced French Chew, a dense, chewy, nougat-like candy inspired by Turkish taffy and traditionally enjoyed through the “Freeze It, Crack It, Smack It” method. Greg Clark purchased Doscher’s Candies in 2004, the Nielsen family acquired part of the company in 2015, and the Rice family acquired the French Chew line in 2025. French Chew production moved to New Richmond, Ohio, while Doscher’s continues making candy canes, peppermint pieces, hard candy, Candy House Candy Buttons, and other sweets in Cincinnati.
