Founded in 1927 by Hernando Caicedo, Colombina began in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, after Caicedo recognized that the sugar produced by his family’s Riopaila sugar mill could be used to make finished candy. The company became known for combining sugar with tropical fruit flavors, and by 1935 its fruit-flavored hard candies had become a recognized part of the Colombina product line. In 1970, Colombina introduced Bon Bon Bum, a fruit-flavored lollipop with a bubble gum center that became one of the company’s most famous products. Colombina has since expanded from a Colombian confectionery company into an international food manufacturer, with products sold across the United States, Latin America, and other global markets.
