Founded in 1935 by Christus A. Papas, Papas Candies is a classic Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky candy brand with deep local roots. Papas, a Greek immigrant from Macedonia, made and sold candy around Cincinnati before opening Lily’s Candies in Covington, Kentucky. Opera Cream candies became part of the company’s early story when Papas sold cream-filled chocolates to Cincinnati Music Hall concertgoers during intermissions. Later, Alex Papas expanded the business with a manufacturing facility on Baker Street in Covington, helping Papas Candies become known for chocolate-covered eggs, opera creams, marshmallow eggs, candy bars, seasonal chocolates, and other old-fashioned sweets.
