About Peeps Candy

Peeps Candy became part of Just Born in 1953 when the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, candy company acquired Rodda Candy Company, the original maker of three-dimensional marshmallow chicks. Early chicks required approximately 27 hours to make by hand with pastry tubes. Just Born mechanized production in 1954, eventually reducing the process to about six minutes per chick. Colorful sugar coatings, soft marshmallow centers, and seasonal shapes helped Peeps grow from an Easter candy into a brand produced for several major holidays.
