Produced by the American Licorice Company since 1914, Red Vines is one the first licorice brands launched in the United States. In the early days, only back licorice was made and sold; however, in 1950 Raspberry Vines were born, which quickly became Red Vines.

In fact, before the name stuck with consumers, most people referred to this new twisted fruity-flavored licorice as “red licorice twists.” Then in the 1960s & 70s, the brand would go on to create new flavors such as grape, strawberry, peppermint, and chocolate.
