Necco

Necco, short for New England Confectionery Company, was founded in 1901 through the merger of several smaller confectionery companies, with roots dating back to 1847. Known for iconic candies like Necco Wafers, Sweethearts, and Sky Bars, Necco became the oldest candy company in the U.S.

The brand faced financial difficulties and declared bankruptcy in 2018. Spangler Candy Company acquired the rights to Necco Wafers and brought them back to market in 2020. Necco products are especially nostalgic in New England, where they were originally produced.

Nerds

Nerds, introduced by the Willy Wonka Candy Company in 1983, are tiny, irregularly shaped, colorful candies known for their crunchy texture and vibrant flavors. Initially produced by Nestlé, the brand was acquired by Ferrara Candy Company in 2018.

Nerds are packaged in dual-chambered boxes, allowing for a mix of different flavors. They have expanded to include products like Nerds Ropes and Big Chewy Nerds. Nerds candies are particularly popular across the United States and are a staple in the American candy market.

Nips

Pearson Candy Company initially created Nips in the 1960s, which are hard candies known for their creamy texture and long-lasting flavors. Now produced by Ferrara Candy Company, Nips comes in various flavors, including chocolate parfait, coffee, and caramel.

These individually wrapped candies are often enjoyed as a treat during coffee breaks. Nips have maintained a steady presence in the American candy market, particularly appreciated for their rich, satisfying taste and smooth texture.

Now and Later

Now and Later candy was introduced in 1962 by the Phoenix Candy Company in Brooklyn, New York. The name reflects its design, allowing consumers to enjoy some pieces immediately “now” and save others for later.

Known for its firm, taffy-like texture that softens as you chew, Now and Later candies come in various flavors, including classic options like apple, cherry, and grape, as well as more unique ones like tropical punch and blue raspberry. Over the years, the brand has changed ownership multiple times, and Ferrara Candy Company is currently producing it. Now and Later remains famous for its long-lasting chew and vibrant flavors.

NutRageous

NutRageous, introduced by The Hershey Company in 1994, is a chocolate bar under the Reese’s brand. This candy bar features a core of creamy peanut butter surrounded by crunchy peanuts and caramel, all coated in milk chocolate.

Originally named Acclaim, it was rebranded to emphasize the abundance of peanuts and the “outrageous” flavor experience. NutRageous has a spinoff variant called Reese’s Outrageous, which includes Reese’s Pieces within the bar. Known for its rich combination of textures and flavors, NutRageous is a favorite among peanut butter and chocolate lovers across the United States.

Nik-L-Nip

Nik-L-Nip, created in the early 1900s, is a unique candy produced by Tootsie Roll Industries. These candies are small wax bottles filled with fruit-flavored syrup. Consumers bite off the top of the wax bottle to drink the syrup inside, and some chew the wax like gum afterward.

The name “Nik-L-Nip” originates from the original price of a nickel (Nik-L) and the method of opening the bottle (Nip). The candy comes in various fruity flavors, such as orange, cherry, lemon, and lime, and remains a nostalgic treat enjoyed by many across the United States.
