Being part of the review team here at Candy Retailer means I get early access to some of the most anticipated candy launches, and Retro Sours was no exception! As a long-time fan who mourned the loss of Altoids Sours in 2010, I was thrilled to hear that Iconic Candy revived this long-lost brand but is now under a new name.
Retro Sours hit all the nostalgic notes with their signature zing and come in three bold flavors—tangerine, mango, and citrus! These sour, hard candies took years to perfect, with input from thousands of testers to ensure they captured the flavor of the originals. From the pop-top tins to the lip-puckering taste, this reimagined classic truly delivers, as expected they would. I remember Atoid Sours as if it were yesterday, so I can confidently say they hit the mark with this one!

Retro Sours Citrus
Citrus Retro Sours brought back so many memories of the original version; the flavor is still just as I remember! However, I couldn’t help but notice they didn’t seem quite as sour as I remembered. Maybe it’s just me, but I think they might’ve toned down the sourness a bit. Don’t get me wrong—they’re still delicious and full of bold lemon flavor! What do you think? Have you tried them yet, and do they pack the same sour punch you remember, or am I just crazy?

Retro Sours Mango
I’ll admit, mango-flavored candy has never been my thing, even though I love fresh mangos! I never tried these back when they were Altoids Sours, so this was my first experience, and honestly, they’re not bad! While they didn’t convert me into a mango candy fan, the flavor is spot-on and definitely delivers what you’d expect. Like with the citrus flavor, I felt the sourness wasn’t quite as intense as I hoped—maybe they turned down the pH levels in these a notch. What about you; do you find these mango sours truly sour or nah?

Saving the best for last, tangerine was always my favorite, and Iconic Candy absolutely nailed it! The flavor, the sourness, and the retro-style tin—it’s all here. I didn’t think I’d ever get to enjoy these again, but here I am, popping one after another. Heads up—they’re smaller than the originals but don’t worry, the big, bold tangerine flavor and sour punch are still just as I remembered. So, what about you? My Overall Opinion of the New Retro Sours
Retro Sours are a win in my book! Iconic Candy did an amazing job bringing these back to life, capturing the nostalgic flavors and packaging we all loved. The tangerine flavor still stands out as my personal favorite, with the perfect balance of flavor and sourness, just as I remember! While the citrus and mango flavors were also good, I couldn’t help but feel the sourness isn’t as intense as it once was, and the candies themselves are smaller than the originals.
