As so many of you know, we tend to lean more toward fact-based ranking than opinionated ones, but every now and then, I like to throw in my two cents! With several years served in the snack and candy aisle, I’ve tried more brands, products, and flavors than I’d like to admit, but it is what it is, and since it is what it is, I think it might be a lost opportunity if you keep all these experiences to myself. As for butterscotch candy, it’s my all-time favorite candy flavor, so it’s an honor to have such a platform here at Candy Retailer to share all my favorite candies!
That said, I promise not to take up too much of your time, as the butterscotch candy category isn’t that big. Nevertheless, after digging into the topic and crunching some numbers, I learned that the butterscotch candy market is valued at around $80 million. This figure is derived from the total hard sugar candy market, valued at $1.1 billion, with butterscotch likely accounting for a portion based on its popularity as a classic flavor. Given the lack of precise data on flavor-specific market shares, my estimate assumes butterscotch represents 5-10% of the hard candy market, reflecting its position among other popular flavors.
In other words, I’m not the only one in America who loves butterscotch candy! However, when people talk about butterscotch candy or search for it, 9 out of 10 times, they’re talking about or searching for butterscotch hard candy discs; you know the ones, oh but there’s more! So, if you’re a true fan of this candy flavor as I am but want to try something new, yet familiar, then you should find this short list quite interesting, maybe even inspiring! On that note, here are my top 10 favorite butterscotch candies available right now! Let me know yours in the comments…
1. Reeds Butterscotch
As one of America’s favorite butterscotch candy brands, Reed’s Butterscotch is most certainly my favorite brand. This iconic brand has been around since 1893, but was discontinued a few years back, then brought back to life by Iconic Candy, a company known for reviving retired, classic candy brands, such as Reeds! These candies come in either rolls or 6.25oz bags of individually wrapped pieces and feature a sweet, creamy, buttery flavor that’s true to its name, making it the best butterscotch candy in the world, in my opinion anyway, but what do you guys think?

2. Taffy Delight Butterscotch Salt Water Taffy
As much as I love butterscotch hard candy discs, there’s just something special about Taffy Delight Butterscotch Salt Water Taffy that I can’t deny, which is why it’s #2 on my list. As for flavor, taste, and texture, it’s rich, authentic, creamy, soft, and chewy! One piece is never enough, so you’ll want to approach caution, as this candy is very inviting and addicting! You can get a 16oz jar (approx. 65 individually wrapped pieces) here at Candy Retailer for about $12, making it even more tempting! So, if you’re looking for something new to try, this is the one!

3. Primrose Butterscotch Buttons
Made by Primrose Candy Company, these butterscotch buttons are my third favorite. It was a tough call between them and #4 on my list, as I think they’re equal in flavor and quality. Ultimately, I went with Primrose because they’re a brand I’ve known and trusted all my life. Not to say I don’t know and trust the other brand, because I do, but my history with Primrose Butterscotch Buttons goes way back. If you know, you know! For those who don’t, you can learn more here. So, if this is the one for you, as it is for me, click below and scoop up a 1lb bag today and bring it home!

4. Quality Candy Butterscotch Discs
In my opinion, there’s not a huge difference between Quality Candy Butterscotch Discs and Primrose Buttons, other than personal recognition and experience. As for taste and flavor, I found them nearly the same; both are smooth, sweet, and buttery, just as you’d expect them to be! You can also score a 1lb bag here at Candy Retailer for about $4.60, but check before taking my word, as sometimes prices change a few cents here and there from time to time. So, if this sounds like the butterscotch candy you’ve been looking for, click below and own it.

5. Snickers Butterscotch Scoop
If I had written this list a week ago, Snickers Butterscotch Scoop would be on it. Although I tried in July 2023 when it came out at Walmart only, I had forgotten about it until just a few days before writing this list, and how I forgot about it, I have no idea! It was so good the second time I had to write a review about it, which I published on our sister-site, GrubRank. You can read the full review here. In brief, it was 100% exactly like the traditional Sinckers bar; the only difference was the butterscotch nougat. Overall, I really enjoyed it a lot, which is why it’s now my 5th favorite butterscotch candy! How about you, have you tried it yet?

6. Colombina Butterscotch Buttons
For a rich, creamy flavor that melts in your mouth, I recommend Colobina Butterscotch Buttons! As for quality, I think they’re a little under Reed’s, Primrose, and Quality Candy. However, they’re also almost half the price, which confirms my claim. As for flavor, I would say the same thing as I did about the quality: they’re really good, but not quite as good. They also come in a 1lb bag of individually wrapped butterscotch buttons, so you get the same amount for half the price, so it’s a good deal for what you get. Then again, this is only my opinion; you might find them better than my #1 pick, so if you’ve never tried them, there’s only one way to find out.

7. Gilliam Butterscotch Candy Sticks
With a long-standing history that stretches back to 1927, Gilliam Butterscotch Candy Sticks are another long-time favorite of mine! You can crush them as is, use them as an ingredient, or use them in a candy design or project. As for my ranking, I place them at #7 because I’m not a huge fan of candy sticks, but if these were butterscotch discs, they’d most likely be in my top four, so it’s definitely not about flavor or quality! If you’re a fan of this brand, you’ll be pleased to know that we carry 80ct boxes, so you can get extra creative or just have a long-lasting supply that never disappoints! Click below to view today’s prices!

8. Sunrise Butterscotch Discs
Like Colombina, I thought Sunrise Butterscotch Discs were almost as good as Reed’s, Primrose, and Quality Candy, but a little less in terms of price, quality, and flavor. Are they worth buying and trying? Absolutely! Although they’re not my top pick, it doesn’t mean that you won’t love them 100x more than me! As with all our butterscotch discs, you can get these by the pound here at Camdy Retailer! On that note, please keep in mind that just because they’re #8 on my list doesn’t make them bad, as this is a list of my favorites, so I totally recommend them.

9. Boyer Butterscotch Smoothie Peanut Butter Cups
Boyer’s Butterscotch Smoothie Peanut Butter Cups are simply in a league of their own, although closely related to the traditional peanut butter cups this brand is known for, among others. As you’d expect, or perhaps you know, this candy features melt-in-your-mouth milk chocolate with a sweet, creamy butterscotch peanut butter filling that’s soft, delicious, and addicting! You can pick up a 24-count box here at Candy Retailer, making it an excellent option for those who already know it doesn’t get much better!

10. Sugar Free Hard Candy Butterscotch
Okay, I’ll admit it, I’m not a fan of sugar-free butterscotch candy discs, but that’s not to say they’re bad. They taste very similar to traditional sugar-based butterscotch candy discs, but slightly off a little bit. You can find two top-selling brands that make them, Arcor and Eda’s, both available by the pound here at Candy Retailer! The reason I added them to my list is that if I ever had to cut back on my sugar intake, at least I would still be able to enjoy my favorite butterscotch candy! Plus, I know there are a lot of good folks out there who can’t have sugar, so if that’s you, these butterscotch buttons are for you!
