The truth is, ranking the best peanut butter cookies is 100% based on opinions! In that sense, I suppose we’re all experts in this field. However, I like to believe that nobody loves peanut butter cookies more than me, even though I know that’s not true; nonetheless, this is still my favorite cookie flavor, so please feel free to agree or disagree with my list. In fact, I invite all those who oppose or would like to correct my list to set the record straight in the comments below! I’m also always on the hunt to try new brands and products, so if I missed something, please share! In return, I’ll share my mom’s recipe for the best peanut butter cookies after revealing my list of the best brands from the US.

Mom’s Made In Michigan Peanut Butter Cookies—The Recipe

As promised, here’s the recipe I swiped from my mom ages ago! These are classic peanut butter cookies—no extra stuff, no frills. If you know, you know! The recipe makes 24 cookies, but if you only want 12, just cut the ingredients in half, and you should be good to go! Feel free to remix this recipe however you’d like to make it yours! Either way, they’ll turn out great! I use JIF, America’s #1 peanut butter brand, but you can use any brand you like!

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick of butter (room temperature, ½ cup)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup Jif Peanut Butter
  • 1 ½ large eggs (use 1 whole egg plus half of another, beaten and measured)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • ⅜ teaspoon sea salt (approximately 1/3 teaspoon)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Mix in Jif Peanut Butter until fully combined.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth.
  5. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  7. Scoop dough onto the baking sheet, spacing cookies about 2 inches apart.
  8. Roll the dough into a ball and flatten slightly. Use a fork to create a crisscross pattern.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
