Mike and Ike
Introduced in 1940, Mike and Ike candies have been cloaked by a veil of mystery surrounding their name.
Since the brand's inception, there has been speculation over the name's origin. Popular theories include suggestions that the name was inspired by The Wizard of Oz. Some have suggested the candies are named after characters in a comic that shares the same name. Others believe the candies are named after a popular landmark in their place of origin, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The oblong candies are characterized by their bright colors and fruity flavors.
Mike and Ike candies have a soft, gelatinous center encased by a firm, smooth, sugary shell. The original pack includes Cherry, Strawberry, Orange, lemon, and Lime flavors. Over the years, the Just Born candy company has introduced several variations of the original pack.
Current variations include Berry Blast and Tropical Typhoon. Other single-flavor packs, sour variations, and mixes are currently available. Valentine's Mix and Mummy Mix are also available seasonally. Cotton Candy and Root Beer Float are limited-edition flavors that appeared in 2015 and 2021.
The Berry Blast mix is comprised of Blueberry, Blue Raspberry, Strawberry, Wildberry, and Peach Berry. Tropical Typhoon includes five flavors: Kiwi-Banana, Paradise Punch, Caribbean Punch, Strawberry-Banana, and Mango.
