Bazooka Gum
Introduced in the U.S. in 1947, Bazooka gum is a bubble gum brand that is nostalgic for many. The classic pink bubble gum debuted shortly after World War II. The gum is produced by Topps, a Brooklyn-based candymaker. Many believe the gum was likely named after the rocket-propelled military weapon.
The gum has always featured a patriotic red, white, and blue wrapper. In 1953, Topps began including a small comic strip inside of every wrapper. The star of the comic was a character named Bazooka Joe. To date, there are more than 1,500 Bazooka Joe comics available. Older versions of the comic were of a larger size and are no longer in production.
Topps eventually added several flavors to their Bazooka gum lineup. Fans can now enjoy Strawberry Shake, Watermelon Whirl, Cherry Berry, and Grape Rage. Sugar-free bubble gum chewers now have sugar-free options in Flavor Blast and Original. All varieties of gum come in two sizes and are sold in countries around the world. In many countries, the comic is translated into the local language. Canadian varieties of Bazooka include versions of the comics in English and French.
In 2019, the company debuted a Throwback Pack. The Throwback Pack is inspired by the brand's original packaging and features graphics from the 1980s. The retro packs will also include reprints of the original comics, which have not been available for decades.
